Hello, my name is Michael Cook. I am 21 years old and currently studying Painting & Printmaking at the Glasgow School of Art. I work solely in painting (right now anyway) and am more influenced by the work of Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer than any contemporary (or classic) artists. It shouldn’t be about middle class conceptual snobbery, made to exclude those who don’t pretend to read The Guardian (although concept is crucial), but about enjoying making something that can make you at the very least smile just a bit, even after spending hours and hours covered in turps and then developing a skin condition.
More work can eventually be seen at www.michaelcook.weebly.com when I update it, there’s nowt much really on it right now and probably won’t be until I figure out how to work it better. But more stuff will be there eventually though.
Here is some stuff I have been doing over the past two weeks, some bits could be used for the ‘For A Limited Time Only Exhibition’.
1 - A clock stops after gathering a length of string 3 hours 35 minutes long
2 - Two clocks destroy each other after unravelling a piece of my mothers knitting.
3,4,5 - collage and a parachute blown against the wall
6 - A rain cloud pours coloured droplets onto an umbrellas for about 30 minutes.
7,8 - Wet patch and rain cloud collage.
9 - A man falls into a giant box of candy floss.
Have fun today folks! Charles Myatt
Dennis J. Reinmueller is in 2nd year sculpture at ECA. His work is perhaps my favourite sort, atleast at the moment, it’s joyous and amusing, a real treat! So check it out!
This is his tumblr - http://reinmueller.tumblr.com/ - send him some love.
Anna Horton from first year intermedia at ECA has submitted these frozen paint pieces for inclusion in the ‘For A Limited Time Only’ exhibition. These are studies of a sort working towards a similar resolved piece that she plans to create. I like how they kind of remind me of those slot machines that you’d put coins down at funfairs and the like.
Here is some work by Julia Stringer, 1st year illustration at ECA.
Prints by Bethany Macleod 2nd year Painting and Printmaking GSA.
“They are from exploring the idea that someone would see more of you than you would want them too, no matter how much you try to cover and hide your true self. They vunrability that comes from that is something is at once scary, gruesome and yet has a beaty within it.” Bethany Macleod

Painting & Printmaking Student at the Glasgow school of Art.
The images i work with come from sets of personal myths. They suggest narratives from city life, materialised from an urban upbringing.
3rd year exhibition by the intermedia department at ECA. If you can make it along it runs from 7 - 9 at 183 Dalry Road (3 mins from Haymarket). Get on it yall, hope to see you there.
Here we have more work in relation to the ‘For A Limited Time Only Exhibition’ this time From fourth year drawing and painting student at ECA, Rachael Thomas. The seventh addition to the first SAGE exhibition. Please have a read below!
I’m interested in the manipulation of everyday, cheap materials - cling film, tin foil, flour, chalk dust, oilpaint - and creating a transformation that confuses the readings of these well known materials. I’ve recently become really interested in the idea of aging a material or object so that the making process, installation and transport leave visible marks on the surface. This directly affects the lifespan of an object so that particularly tricky/problematic installations may be an objects only chance to be seen before total destruction. This leads to a questioning of their form and function, with fragility and a finite nature confusing all potential uses and readings.
For this exhibitions (especially in relation to the idea of a ‘one off piece’) I would like to work with double sided tape, creating a material several metres wide that is covered in flour and chalk dust (there is an attached photo of an experiment of this). This will be attached to a wall or its context using its ‘underside’ so that removal and de-installation will cause destruction. I usually work in a ‘site adjusted’ way so that, although it has a pre determined shape, it’s installation and relationship to a space will come on the day when considering its size and properties in situ.
